This song came through me while sitting on a rock in the middle of the Santiam River. I was cooling my feet on a hot summer day, admiring the beauty, when an Eagle circled overhead and landed in a tree, watching over all the beings congregating in and near the water. A mama merganser and a dozen ducklings were gently gliding around a calm, deep teal pool. Several groups of humans were splashing about in various coves along the rocky shore. I began hearing Santiam's undercurrent, singing "Love Flow, Light Glow" as the mirrored sunlight sparkled and illuminated the underbelly of the leaves of the low-hanging tree branches. Butterflies fluttered about, Little Dipper birds perched on nearby stones, surrounded by giant Cedar, Fir and Big Leaf Maple.
Most of the humans seemed oblivious to the more-than-human kin around us until, all of a sudden, Mama Merganser cruised down the rapids and all dozen of her little ducklings literally ran on top of the water, chasing after her! Every human present stopped what they were doing and all of our attention was simultaneously focused upon this miraculous event. Those ducklings, just being themselves, doing what is in their nature, without doubt or hesitation. That moment unified the collective consciousness of all those present with the Anima Mundi, we were all transformed. The Great Spirit of the Mountain River sang this song through me. Notice how the "undercurrent" is longer than the verse? The water at the bottom of the river moves slower than the surface water which swirls around and mixes in spirals, gathering momentum as other tributaries join in the adventure toward the sea. Indigenous wisdom reminds us that you can never step into the same river twice. Come, swim in the current of love, play your heartstrings like a cello, dive deep, float on your back and look at the stars, lay your bones on a sun-warmed stone, bask in the beauty of nature's soul - which is also you! Let your unique light shine, reflecting your divine radiance. Share the gift of YOU with the world!
